Material
Grade and Strength
As to range of strength, Byard spiral weld pipe mills will manufacture
in conformance to JIS G3444 (Carbon Steel Pipe for General Structural
Purposes), G3457 (Are Welded Carbon Steel Pipe for General Piping)
and the API standards, ranging from 5LS Gr. B (minimum yield strength
of 24kg/mm2) to X-70 (minimum yield strength of 49 kg/mm2). Byard
mills will also manufacture spiral-welded pipe for special purposes,
such as high strength pipe for low temperature service, pipe for
transmission of powders and slurry and abrasion-resistant pipe for
subsea dredging.
Quality
Byard spiral welded pipe mills are manufactured under the integrated,
rigid quality control systems, which ensure that the quality is
highly reliable and stable.
Dimensional
Accuracy
Dimensional accuracy is an important factor for pipe for all purpose.
Particularly high dimensional is required for pipe for structural
uses, since dimensional accuracy is directly related to strength
in this pipe. For this reason, it can be said that spiral welded
pipe mills can manufacture pipe with good dimensional accuracy (outside
diameter, wall thickness, out of roundness, straightness etc.) because
of high controlled techniques from coiled skelp rolling to pipe
forming and welded.
Strength
And Toughness
Our mills can manufacture pipe with high strength and high toughness
for low temperature service through well-controlled skelp welding,
pipe forming and welding processes. The most outstanding feature
of the apperance of spiral welded pipe is that its welded line has
a considerable large angle (45-82 degrees) to its axis. It has been
proved both theoretically and experimentally that spiral-welded
pipe is more advantageous when it is used as pipe forming and welding.
Economy
The production cost for Byard spiral mills is considerably lower
than that with any other production method, because Byard mills
use high quality hot rolled coils high efficiency hot strip mills,
as well as highly automatic high performance pipe forming equipment.
Transmission
Use
Pipe manufactured from our SAW spiral mills may be used for the
transmission of natural gas and oil, low and medium pressure city
gas mains, water supply mains and steam or gas piping in chemical
plants and petroleum refineries.
The standards applicable to spiral weided pipe for these piping
sevices include:

Structural
Use
High strength steel pipe of heavy wall thickness for structural
purpose is manufactured on our SAW spiral mill. Spiral welded pipe
is used in the largest quantities for such structural purposes,
because of the following characteristics:
- Dimensional
accuracy, such as in roundness and straightness, is good.
- Non standard
sizes (outside diameter, wall thickness etc) are available.
- Any desired
length is available. Long lengths (up to 40 metres long) spiral
welded pipe can be manufactured without jointing.
The standards
applicable to this pipe for these purposes are as follows:
